NAIS- Two hundred and seven eight cattle have died in Gwembe district in Southern Province due to lack of pasture.
District’s Veterinary Officer JACOB BOTHMA says the death of the livestock is due to the drought in the area .
Speaking during the goat pass-on programme in Gwembe, Dr BOTHMA added that several goats have also died due to heart water disease which is as a result of drought.
Meanwhile, the government through the Enhanced Smallholder Livestock Investment Programme -E-SLIP- has distributed over 15,000 goats in various parts of the country.
E-SLIP Livestock Stocking and Restocking Specialist MWAPE MWENI says the programme has also distributed more than 2,000 beef and dairy cattle.
Mr MWENI says the move is aimed at strengthening resilience and enhancing alternative livelihood for rural communities.
