A 22-year-old man has died, while his brother is in hospital, in Masaiti district, after the two were trapped in a 30 metres deep water well they were digging.
Copperbelt Province Police Commissioner, PEACEWELL MWEEMBA has identified the deceased as CHARLES SIPUNGA, aged 22, and his elder brother, EVANS, aged 37.
Mr MWEEMBA has told ZNBC news in a statement that CHARLES suffocated while trying to help his elder brother, EVANS, who was earlier trapped in the well.
He has explained that CHARLES, a local specialist at digging water wells, was engaged to help re-dig a well which had gone dry at a nearby farm, but he enlisted help from his elder brother.
Mr MWEEMBA has added that as the two were digging, EVANS got trapped first and later CHARLES also got trapped and suffocated as he tried to retrieve his elder brother.
After the two were retrieved unconscious by members of the community, CHARLES was pronounced dead at Silangwa Clinic, while EVANS survived.
