The Zambia Police intervened this afternoon, halting an unauthorized gathering at the residence of former President Edgar Lungu, the sixth president and Tonse Alliance candidate.

A group of students, ferried by Raphael Nakachinda, the PF faction secretary general, arrived at the scene in buses, chanting “No Lungu on Ballot No Election in 2026.”

According to the students, who are beneficiaries of the bursaries scrapped by Lungu, they had come to show support for the former president ahead of his eligibility case, scheduled for December 10, 2024.

However, alert police officers swiftly arrived at the scene, putting an end to the unauthorized gathering.

In Zambia, it is mandatory to notify the police at least seven days prior to holding any public gathering or event, as stipulated in Section 5(4) of the Public Order Act, Cap 113 of the Laws of Zambia.
