A 37-year-old man from Chinsali has died in an accident while crossing the road, holding his three-month-old child in his arms.
The accident occurred when the driver of a Toyota Mark-II hit Bruce Mweya, who was crossing the road with his child. The incident happened on Nambuluma Road in the Kazembo area.
Muchinga Province Police Commanding Officer Dennis Moola said the accident involved a Toyota Mark-II, registration number ALC 827, which sustained damage to its windscreen and right side-view mirror.
He said the vehicle was being driven from west to east by Kampeshi Kampeshi, aged 28, of Mayadi Compound in Chinsali district, who escaped unhurt.
Mr Moola stated that the pedestrian, Bruce Mweya, aged 37, of Mulyangolo Compound in Chinsali district, was crossing the road heading north while carrying his three-month-old son in his arms.
“The pedestrian and his son sustained fatal head injuries and were pronounced dead upon arrival at Chinsali General Hospital and Chinsali District Hospital, respectively,” he said.
Mr Moola added that the bodies of the deceased have been deposited in the mortuaries awaiting postmortem.
