The Zambia National Women’s Lobby has condemned the behaviour of Mpika Member of Parliament Francis Kapyanga as unparliamentary.
The ZNWL demands a serious penalty and punishment to deter Kapyanga from similar conduct in the future.
Yesterday, Kapyanga used demeaning language towards Mwandi Member of Parliament Sebeso Sefulo , saying his fellow looked constipated in the house.
According to Golden Nachibinga, acting Executive Director of the National Women Lobby, Kapyanga’s behaviour amounts to harassment and gender-based violence.
Nachibinga expressed disappointment that such behaviour is exhibited in parliament, emphasizing that a serious penalty should be imposed to serve as an example.
The Women Lobby also noted that Kapyanga’s behaviour is particularly unfortunate, given that the country is currently observing 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.
Kapyanga’s misconduct in parliament, particularly against a respected MP for Mwandi Sefulo Sibeso , deserves more than disciplinary parliamentary procedures.
His behaviour insulted the woman, assaulted her dignity, and caused serious injury.
Nachibinga emphasized that parliamentarians should serve as role models, maintaining exemplary conduct and avoiding stereotypical behaviours that undermine the country’s progress.
