DNA population Database being created

NATIONAL Forensic Authority (NFA) says it has made considerable progress in creating the DNA population database for Zambia.

The authority, established under the National Forensic Act No. 2 of 2020 as the regulator of forensic services in the country, says it has recorded a number of other milestone achievements, including publication of the crime scene guidelines in the Government Gazette.

According to Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security Permanent Secretary for administration Josephs Akafumba there has been a notable increase in the utilisation of forensic DNA evidence in the investigations of criminal offences.

Zambia’s first-ever forensic DNA laboratory was commissioned in May last year at Levy Mwanawasa Medical University in Lusaka.
