A 19-year-old Evelyn Hone College student’s visit to her family in Lusaka’s Chipata Maplot area turned into a nightmare when she was allegedly raped by a Yango driver.
According to Zambia Daily Mail, the student had left her boarding house on Wednesday afternoon to visit her family.
However, when she returned late, she booked a Yango taxi to take her back to her boarding house, located behind the Inter City Bus terminus.
But instead of driving her to her destination, the driver, identified as Joshua Chisenga of Chipata Township, allegedly diverted to the East Park Mall car park.
There, he locked the vehicle doors and began to assault the student, intending to rape her.
The survivor screamed for help, but Chisenga overpowered her and committed the rape inside the car.
Afterward, he dropped the student at her boarding house, acting as if nothing had happened.
The student reported the incident to her schoolmates, who helped her file a complaint at Lusaka Central Police Station the next morning.
Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga confirmed the incident, stating, “A manhunt for the suspect, who is currently on the run, has been launched to bring him to justice.”
