The Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ), through the USAID Zambia -funded Tuberculosis Local Organizations Network (TBLON) project, has supported the Copperbelt Provincial Health Office with three motorbikes.

This initiative, done in collaboration with the Ministry of Health Zambia (MoH), seeks to address transportation challenges that have previously hindered the effective implementation and monitoring of #tuberculosis (TB) programmes.

During the handover ceremony, USAID-TBLON Copperbelt Province Medical Officer Dr Jimmy Asosa Ngoy said the motorcycles will enhance the mobility of district tuberculosis (TB) focal point personnel in Mpongwe, Masaiti, and Lufwanyama Districts of Copperbelt Province.

Dr Ngoy highlighted their significance in strengthening TB control efforts. “These motorcycles will greatly enhance the mobility and efficiency of TB program personnel. With improved transportation, staff will be able to visit health facilities more frequently, offering leadership and closely monitoring the implementation of TB programmes,” he said.

This support follows the USAID-TBLON Chief of Party, Dr Mary Kagujje’s visit to the districts in 2024, which revealed the districts’ critical transportation issues brought to light by Provincial Health Director Dr Charles Mwinuna.
