Government has successfully retrieved a Zambian child who was allegedly trafficked to Mozambique last year.
The one year eight months old child was trafficked from Lundazi in Eastern Province on 28th October, 2023.
Ministry of Community Development and social security Permanent Secretary ANGELA KAWANDAMI says Zambia’s National Referral Mechanism played a pivotal role in ensuring a coordinated, multi-sectoral response to the case of the trafficked child.
Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today, Ms KAWANDAMI said the development demonstrates the country’s commitment to upholding the rights and welfare of its children.
And Ministry of Home Affairs Director for Anti-Human Trafficking BORIS MULENGU said the successful retrieval of the child from Mozambique is a testament to the high-level coordination and cooperation between governments.
Meanwhile, Interpol Unit Chief Inspector IDAH MUNALULA said the achievement serves as a motivation to continue the fight against human trafficking, ensuring justice for victims and their families.
