VICE President Mutale Nalumango says Zambia, like other countries, recognises the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in driving socio-economic development and improving service delivery.
Ms Nalumnago notes that Zambia is starting to lay a foundation for the utilisation of AI and an enabling environment for the AI ecosystem.
The Vice President cites capacity building in improving healthcare outcomes, enhancing education, boosting agricultural productivity, global partnerships to promote digital cooperation and commitment to inclusive AI as some of Zambia’s national AI focus areas.
THE Vice President was speaking today during the opening ceremony of the 2024 World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit in China, being held under the theme: “Embracing A People-Centred and AI-For-Good Digital Future – Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace.”
“Zambia’s progress in AI is exemplified by initiatives such as the $150 million investment in AI and machine learning for identifying battery metal deposits and renewable energy resources at the Mingomba Mine. The mine holds the largest copper deposit discovered in Africa in the last 10 years,” she added.
Ms Nalumango said the global south is committed to ensuring digital technologies, particularly, Artificial Intelligence, uplift lives, foster economic growth and drive sustainable development for all.
The Vice President observed that globally, the transformative power of AI is evident as it is projected to contribute significantly to economic growth.
She further reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to creating a supportive climate for digital growth.
