In the quest to enhance quality maternal health care delivery, Kawambwa Town Council has commenced the construction of Shikalaba maternity annex in Kawambwa Central Constituency and Chitotela maternity annex in Pambashe Constituency at the total cost of K2, 373,139.00.
The two projects under construction have been funded under the 2024 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and will be executed by Shalawambe General Dealers and Jokama General Dealers respectively for a period of 16 weeks.
Government has attached great importance to achieving universal health coverage through providing quality health care by ensuring that more maternity annexes are constructed in Kawambwa district.
The construction of the Maternity annexes will cushion the plight of expecting mothers covering long distances in order to access maternal and neonatal health services and also compliment governments policy directive aimed at addressing martenal mortality, as no mother deserves to die while giving birth.
Government through Kawambwa Town Council had commenced the construction of 4 maternity annexes at Kapako, Buyaka, Kota and Zakeyo rural health Centres 10 weeks ago whose works are between 50 and 70% respectively.
The Local Authority remains committed to ensuring that women have access to quality maternal health services with the privacy they deserve by taking the facilities closer to them.
The Kawambwa Town Council has also commenced works on the 22 km Kala road at the total cost of K200,000.
The works on the road have been funded under the Road Sector Grant and has seen works on phase 1 commencing from Ntulo junction to Kawambwa Provincial STEM secondary school with phase 2 continuing from the STEM secondary school to Muchulila.
The scope of works include grading, sport improvement, V-drain formation, mitre drains and unblocking of culverts.
A reliable road network remains key to achieving developmental goals as it facilitates easier movement of people and goods which results in spurring economic activities.
As a Local Authority we are urging our road users both motorists and pedestrians using Kala road to cooperate with the officers working on the road, as mobility is likely to be interrupted at certain points..
