Her Honour the Deputy Mayor of Lusaka Ms. Ketty Nanyangwe has called for collective action towards improving hygiene standards in the communities as a way of fighting diseases.
She said community members should actively participate in clearing garage and ensuring that their surroundings are clean and not entirely depend on the Local Authority to clean for them.
“Let us all work together to clean the surroundings where we trade from and ensure that the waste that is generated everywhere is disposed off in designated areas and not wait for the council, “said Ms. Nanyangwe.
Ms. Nanyangwe also urged all residents to adhere to the ‘Polluter Pays Principle’ that advocates for holding those who pollute the environment to be accountable for the costs associated with their pollution.
Therefore, all households should pay for garage collection to make it easy for the Local Authority to manage waste in the city.
The Deputy Mayor today took part in cleaning to demonstrate the spirit of working together to fight diseases in the city.
