The heartbreaking reality is that nearly 200 million children suffer adverse physical effects from malnutrition each year.
The impact can be lifelong, if not deadly: over half of childhood deaths are linked to poor nutrition.
Malnutrition is a crisis we cannot ignore.Without proper nutrition, children’s bodies can’t grow or learn like they should.
Their bodies and brains may develop more slowly than expected, and everyday tasks like paying attention at school or doing chores become daunting.
Their chance at a bright, thriving future is threatened, all because they lack the nutrition they need to stay healthy.
But together, we’re giving children in the world’s most low-resourced communities the chance they deserve.
Last year, CMMB provided nutritional support for 133,471 children under 5, through vitamin supplements and in-facility treatments for malnutrition.
Local community health workers are trained and equipped to assess children for signs of malnutrition and distribute vitamins and emergency therapeutic food like Plumpy’Nut—a peanut-based paste specially formulated to nourish children with malnutrition.
They also refer children with more concerning symptoms of malnutrition to health facilities where lifesaving treatment is on hand.
