The Zambia Congress of Trade Unions -ZCTU secretary general Joy Beene has called on head of state Dr Hakainde Hichilema to ensure that the fight against corruption is not only targeting the past but also the present and the future.
ZCTU Secretary General says corruption is a vice that should not be encouraged because it takes away the wealth meant for society.Mr Beene was speaking when he officially opened a three-day strategic planning workshop on Anti corruption organised by Zambia Accountability and Transparency Initiatives ZATI workshop for Trade Unions and Civil Society Organisations with funding from USAID aimed at identify how the CSOs and union can work together in a fight against corruptionBeene has urged Trade Unions and Civil Society Organisation coalitions to help the call to fight corruption.
,” If the president is running a corrupt cabinets its better to fire them and avoid reshuffles. We have seen this tendency to transfer the ministers from one ministry to the other it’s not helping the nation and the massive effort being put by various stakeholders, ” said Beene.
Mr Beene also pointed out that collaboration between trades unions and civil society organizations is crucial fornthe well being of the nation.
,” In recent years, the collaboration between ZCTU and CSOs has yielded significant achievements.Through joint efforts, we have successfully advocated for workers’ rights and championed social justice, he explained.
He also noted that corruption is a complex and pervasive challenge that threatens Zambia’s economic development, social cohesion, and institutional integrity.
Mr Beene reaffirmed the commitment of ZCTU and CSOs partnership in the fight against corruption.,” Please be assured that ZCTU remains steadfast in commitment to partnering with Civil Society Organisations in area of interest,” said Beene.The three day workshop is held at qurom hotel in kabulonga.
