Government through Kawambwa Town Council has disbursed a total of K4, 244,133.35 to 67 business groups and individuals from both Kawambwa Central and Pambashe Constituencies under the 2024 Constituency Development Fund loans component.
Kawambwa Central Constituency has seen a total of 44 business groups and individuals receive a total amount of K2, 332,000 while Pambashe Constituency has seen a total of 23 business groups and individuals receive a total of K 1, 912,133.35 respectively.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at the Public Square, Luapula Province Permanent Secretary Mighty Mumba said Constituency Development Fund (CDF) was a testament of government’s commitment led by His Excellency the Republican President Mr. Hakainde Hichilema of uplifting the living standards of Zambians.
He said the loans were a vital resource for people to expand their businesses such as agriculture and trade adding that jobs for other community members were supposed to be created by beneficiaries and contribute actively to the district economic landscape.
Mr. Mumba stated that beneficiaries needed to wholly let the entrepreneural spirit thrive by utilizing funds prudently and further remember that success could never be achieved overnight but required hardwork, dedication and resilience.
The PS added that CDF was designed to empower individuals and groups to initiate and grow their small and medium enterprises thereby fostering local economic growth and reducing poverty at community and nation at large.
He further commended government for prioritizing the CDF initiative and for providing the necessary resources to empower communities, further commending Kawambwa Town Council for the tireless work in mobilising beneficiaries and ensuring that the loan allocation process was fair and transparent.Meanwhile, a beneficiary from Pambashe Constituency Eugene Kaoma commended government for positively changing the lives of communities through CDF in Kawambwa district.
He said when so many people in the country thought CDF was a hoax, Kawambwa district had a different testimony, as infrastructure development of health posts, schools, water points, Police posts and stations, staff houses and maternity annexes were being built around the district.
Mr. Kaoma stated that free education that government had introduced was key to providing equal access to education, helping learners to acquire knowledge and skills in turn contributing to the economic development of the country.The 2024 loans have seen a 67.5% increase from the 2023 number of beneficiaries.
