Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts, Elvis Nkandu has called for an overhaul towards the awarding of Government empowerment grants and loans to ensure majority of citizens benefit.
Mr Nkandu stressed that there is need to carefully examine faults in the process of awarding contracts in an effort to avoid empowering the same beneficiaries more than twice.
The Minister said it is significant to thoroughly examine the process of awarding grants and loans to avoid breeding confusion.
Speaking when he awarded more than 130 grants, 12 motorcycle loans and sport kits in Chirundu District yesterday Mr Nkandu said all the empowerment programmes are an initiative by Republican President His Excellency Dr Hakainde Hichilema to empower the youths.
Chirundu District Commissioner, Patrick Kasambila said empowerment programmes were massively contributing foster development in the country and job creation for the youth.
Mr Kasambila said the awarding of grants and loans will not only reduce poverty but help young people start businesses.
The District Commissioner said the President Dr Hichilemaโs deliberate policies to empower the youth will go a long way to improve the standards of living at household and individual levels.Chirundu Town Council (CTC) Chairperson, Nevers Muchindu expressed gratitude over President Dr Hichilemaโs policies which have been supporting the growth of small businesses through distinguished empowerment programmes.
Mr Muchindu said it is important to invest money in Chirundu District as it is rapidly expanding which required beneficiaries to make effort to deliver to their full potential.Beneficiary, Miyanda Hachilala hailed Dr Hichilema for exhibiting positive political will towards addressing numerous challenges affecting citizens.
