The Lunch of the TONSE ALLIANCE originally scheduled for today has been postponed to Thursday.
No explanation has been given as journalists and other invited guests already started tripping at the venue.
To add salt to the confusion, the venue has been changed from Mukango Golf View Hotel to Melsim Lodge.
This sudden shift has created confusion among alliance members, who are now pulling in different directions.
It seems the alliance, comprising parties like the Green Party, Patriots for Economic Progress, Patriots for Economic Progress, and National Christian Congress, is experiencing internal tensions.
The postponement and venue change may indicate deeper issues within the coalition.
According to a notice by Sean Tembo, the alliance spokesperson, TONSE Alliance Set to Launch on November 7th, Unveil Presidential Candidate and not today as earlier announced.
The TONSE Alliance, a coalition of opposition parties, civil society organizations, and key stakeholders, is gearing up for its official launch on Thursday at Melsim Lodge in Lusaka.
The event, scheduled from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, will bring together invited guests, including representatives from civil society, church mother bodies, traditional leaders, and diplomatic corps.
The alliance aims to provide checks and balances to the current government and present a united opposition front in the 2026 general elections.
To achieve this, the TONSE Alliance has invited other opposition parties, such as the United Kwacha Alliance and the Socialist Party, to join forces.
During the launch, the alliance will sign a founding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) among its members and unveil its presidential candidate for the 2026 elections.
The candidate is expected to form a Shadow Cabinet within 30 days, enabling the alliance to effectively discharge its duties and provide checks and balances on the government. TONSE Alliance spokesperson, Sean E. Tembo emphasized the importance of a united opposition, stating that the alliance seeks to enhance democracy and deliver economic prosperity in line with the wishes and aspirations of the Zambian people.
