Nawa Sitali and Thomson Luzendi, prominent FIX ZESCO Loadshedding activists, have officially joined the Socialist Party, welcomed by party general secretary Dr. Cosmas Musumali in Lusaka. The duo, previously at the forefront of protests against ZESCO and the government, has now aligned with the opposition party. In July, concerns were raised about the credibility of the FIX ZESCO protestors, who had been meeting with M’membe. Despite a successful engagement with ZESCO senior management on July 4, 2024, to address electricity deficit concerns, the youths later refused a sponsored trip to witness critical water levels at Kariba Dam.Then allegations suggested that some FIX ZESCO Protest members, including M’membe and UKA alliance members, had funded the protests to disrupt public order and create civil unrest. The protests were aimed to provoke police reaction and create an impression of national turmoil, mirroring Kenya’s situation, for M’membe’s political gain.Today the Activists Nawa Sitali and Thomson Luzendi joined the Socialist Party in Zambia, marking a significant milestone coming out of their political journey. They were welcomed by Dr. Cosmas Musumali, the party’s General Secretary, who highlighted the importance of their decision to join the party.Luzendi shared his reasons for joining, citing the Socialist Party’s commitment to free education and youth involvement. Nawa endorsed the party, urging Zambians to give socialism a chance. “Come 2026, it’s the Socialist Party and Dr. Fred M’membe. The Socialist Party is the only alternative, championing socialism in Zambia,” Sitali emphasized.
