THREE women have died in an accident which occurred today, October 31, 2024, around 10:00 hours on Mosi Road in Ibex area, Lusaka.
The accident involved a Toyota Hiace minibus bearing registration number BAJ 3856, fleet number LSK 15183 which veered off the road due to excessive speed.
Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said two unidentified male adults sustained severe head injuries and remain admitted in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at UTH.
“Ruth Museteka, aged between 20 and 24 years, a student at Woodlands Nursing School, who, along with other unidentified female passengers, tragically succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited in the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) Mortuary,” he said.
Mr Hamoonga said eight passengers’ sustained injuries of varying degrees and are receiving medical care at UTH and Hilltop Hospital.
He said preliminary investigations indicate that the accident occurred when the driver of the vehicle lost control due to excessive speed, causing the minibus to veer off the road to the left, overturn twice, and come to a halt against a wall fence.
“Police is actively pursuing all available leads to locate the driver, who is believed to have abandoned the scene. We urge any individuals with relevant information to come forward to assist in the investigation,” he said.
